This page provides resources for FAIR compliant digital data collection.

What is FAIR data? 

• Findability is accomplished by creating and curating data resources that are machine-readable, indexed, and searchable. 
• Increasing the Accessibility of data resources includes identifying data silos and working through technological and other barriers to the broad use and reuse of available data resources.
• We work with other stakeholders to ensure the Interoperability of dental data by expanding available vocabulary and terminologies for wide adoption.
• Reuse of data resources is achieved with robust data management and sharing plans that emphasize the need for well described rich data and resources that adhere to community standards.

These principles necessitate that datasets need to be broadly accessible, with clear criteria for access and freely accessible metadata and data dictionaries to be included in the DDS Hub. Additionally, we require that human datasets must be collected and shared consistent with the informed consent of participants and in accordance with privacy laws.

How Can I Make My Data Align with FAIR Principles?

• The FAIR Cookbook is an open, online resource for and by FAIR doers, covering the key steps in a FAIRification journey, the levels and indicators of FAIRness, the maturity model, the technologies, the tools and the standards available, as well as the skills required, and the challenges to achieve and improve data FAIRness.
• The ELIXIR Research Data Management Kit (RDMkit) has been designed to guide life scientists in their efforts to better manage their research data following the FAIR Principles. It is based on the various steps of the data lifecycle, although not all the steps will be relevant to everyone. The contents are generated and maintained by the ELIXIR community. More information on how we want to sustain and govern RDMkit can be found on the RDMkit Alliance page.
